Jonas W. Cottrill
Jonas W. Cottrill, 86, left his earthly home and made his journey to his heavenly home on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016. He was the son of the late Winnie and Guy Cottrill. He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather and friend.
He was a proud graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, was in the United States Army, and retired from Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal. He was a Mason, and had been a proud member of South Charleston Masonic Lodge AF&AM for 57 years. He served as a Master and in other areas of service for his lodge faithfully until he wasn't able to attend. He was also a faithful member of Starcher Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Cash Cottrill; beloved grandson, Joseph Patrick Cottrill; and brother, Alfred Cottrill.
He is survived by son, Terry and wife, Debbie; son, Gary and wife Lynn; and much loved grandson, Bruce. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Skaff. He is also survived by nephews, Ken (Tracy, Kaitlynn and Sydney); Tommy (Laura and Rachel); Larry (Cheryl and Craig); Rick (Patty), and very special friend, Clara "Jimmie" Collins.
We would like to thank his special angels that made these last 3 months tolerable for him, Anita "Doc"; Sabrina "Rose"; Angie "Sweetie"; Liz, Wilma and Diane. We will never be able to express how much we appreciate what you did for him and for us! Jonas tried each and every day with each of you to show his appreciation. It is impossible to express how much gratitude we have for you. We thank Mary Kathryn and Shelly from Hospice for their guidance in finding such wonderful angels and helping us get the Compassionate Care via the Hospice Palliative Care program Jonas needed. To his nurse Isabelle and all nurses that were with him and especially nurse Kathy that was with him his final day, we so appreciate all of you.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff from Kanawha City Health Center for their kind and compassionate care and the home visit from Dr. Grace Falbo, Tracy and Andrea. We also would like to thank the staff at Thomas Memorial Hospital and nurse, Mark, as well as the staff at Oakridge Care Center for their wonderful care, especially Tabby, Holly and David.
It was Jonas' wish to be cremated with no service so we will honor those wishes. However, he did say if he were to have a funeral he would want Pastor Tom Moore to do it. We thank you, Tom, for your visit to Jonas. You have no idea how much he appreciated that visit. Also, Chaplain Pete your visits were appreciated. Brief, we know because he would get tired, but he did enjoy his talks with you. The cards and calls he received brightened his days. Thank you for those who cared to call or send a card.
Since there will be no service at this time, there will be a celebration of his life at a later date. For those who wish to remember Jonas in a special way may we request donations to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd, W. Charleston, WV 25387 or to the relief funds for those affected by the past week's flooding in WV, or a charity of your choice.
